This was our longest ride, covering about 84 miles, my new longest ride ever. But the weather was cool so though we managed the 2,632 feet of climb without any major issues. We enjoyed the pass through towns again including Parkersburg where most of these pictures were taken. Rachel held the cute yellow lab puppies while the owner scrambled around counting them to be sure they were all there.
Once we arrived at Waterloo (Theme: "Happy Trails through Waterloo") and Hawkeye Community College, we called our friends Doug and Deb Sorensen and planned to go out to dinner after we showered. These are old friends from our Koinonia Group at our church in Austin who moved away many years ago. We ate pizza and salads and enjoyed catching up with each other's families. Their daughter Emily joined us and after dinner we went over to Emily's apartment near her school, the University of Northern Iowa, to eat some cookies and watermelon. We had a great time!Back at our camp site on nice grass next to a pine tree, Rachel and I played Gin Rummy and listened to the Fab Four cover Beatles tunes. When they finished and the Kiss knock off band cranked it up, we continued palying Beatles tunes on our IPod.
