RAGBRAI Adventure Travel Day 2 - on to Dubuque

 Trv Day 1 | Trv Day 2 | Trv Day 3 | Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7 | Home
With that 9pm deadline looming and about 850 miles to travel, we got up early and headed out of Oklahoma City. The scenery slowly changed from Oklahoma Plains to Kansas Prairie as the miles ticked away. On the road, I told Rachel about Janice Joplin and we listened to "Me and Bobby McGee" which became the trip's theme song. After 1140 total miles, we made it to the bike drop off point near the Port of Dubuque, got the bikes loaded up, and went to scout out the long term parking to make sure we knew where to go in the morning.

We then found our hotel where the green bathroom tile, the roof over our heads and the location were the only redeeming factors. We found a small coffee cafe in downtown Dubuque where I had the Appaloosa Sandwich and Rachel got a quiche.

The weather forecast called for strong thunderstorms and, sure enough, it stormed all night long. We were centainly happy that we didn't opt for the camp site in Dubuque. Alarm set for 4:30am because the "bus for Sioux City leaves at 6:30am no matter what!"
