Sioux City
That 6:30am bus deadline? No problem! We got up at 4:15am before the alarm rang and arrived at the parking lot just before it opened at 5am. Good fortune here... Last night they were parking people on grass which was now mud because of the all night rain. This morning we parked in a nice paved lot. We carried our luggage to the shuttle and arrived a little before 6am and waited for the bus. Our charter company, Riverbend Bicycle Club, had three buses - about 150 people. Many were already waiting as all the charters were meeting at the same place. A guy drove up on a motorcycle with his bike and luggage on the back.
On the bus ride over we notice how swollen all the streams and rivers were. There was flooding in several places so I began to worry about the bike ride coming back. I texted Joan a 33rd Anniversary Wish and listened to music and my fellow bikers tell each other how many RAGBRAI's they had done.
We arrived in Sioux City where the city was taken over by RAGBRAIers and the theme was "Rock, Ride, Go!". Our campsite was along the Missouri River. We selected a site for the tent and set up shop. Took the shuttle to the Bike Expo downtown and browsed thru the vendor booths. It was hot and sunny so I bought a RAGBRAI cap so I wouldn't be sunburn before the ride even started.

After hiking back to camp and relaxed for a bit in the shade then headed over to Immanuel Lutheran Church for a roasted pork loin dinner. From there we hiked back to the Expo and found a patch of grass and listened to the Sioux City Rockestra and watched the people. We waited for Smash Mouth to set up but they were way too slow and it was getting late so we headed back to camp. Tomorrow was the first day of RAGBRAI!

A traveller must have the back of an ass to bear all, a tongue like the tail of a dog to flatter all, the mouth of a hog to eat what is set before him, the ear of a merchant to hear all and say nothing.
